18 Weeks!!

18 Weeks!!!

“Arrrgh, son-of-a-bitch leg cramp!” is something you may have uttered recently. Most likely it was when you were in bed after finally getting to sleep once your heartburn subsided and your nose cleared.

No one knows what causes them (yet there was a study to see if rats could tell the difference between Japanese and Dutch. They can but not when spoken backwards.  Thanks science you suck today.) The possible culprits are compressed blood vessels or just the pressure of carrying around more weight. Either way they are painful and wrench you out of a glorious sleep like an air horn. Quickest trick to relieve them is to flex your foot upwards and straighten your leg like you’re going to touch your shin with your big toe.

As for your baby, they are yawning and hiccupping now. Awwww. Don’t the leg cramps seem less shitty now? No, you’re right they’re still terrible." - Pregnant Chicken

Size/Info: The babe is about 5.6" long, weights about 7 oz and is roughly the size of a sweet potato, croissant, tall decaf Frappuccino with whip cream or a sugar glider. Her retina's have formed and may now be able to detect light. Myelin is starting to form around her nerves and they are forming more complex connections and will continue to until around her first birthday. Guess what?! At this point her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. So bizarre!

What is new this week?
We had an appointment this week with Maternal Fetal Medicine which included an ultrasound. It was suppose to be just a quick one but Nancy (our ultrasound tech) decided to go ahead and do the anatomy scan as she could see everything. She said our baby is very photogenic. Everything looked perfect according to Dr, Schafer. He told us that she is in the 81 percentile for weight at about 9oz. Good growing baby! The best part of the ultrasound for me was seeing her kick and feeling it at the same time. Last Thursday evening, I was laying on the couch and I 100% felt her kick. Jason tried to feel it but it can't be felt on the outside just yet. Since then, I have felt her every day! She is usually active in the afternoon when I am sitting for longer periods at my desk and in the evening before I go to bed. It is so reassuring to feel her moving around in there!! I did get my blood work done and the CBC was great but the AFP test wasn't back yet. In the video below, you can see her moving her arms and legs. Then you can see her actual heart beating before the audio portion of the heartbeat.

Symptoms: Even though I am taking my acid reflux once a day, I am still eating tums 2-3x a day as well. I have crazy blue visible veins all over my chest and belly and according to Jason the boobs are bigger. I am happy they are not as painful as they use to be!

Food aversions: Mostly just tomato sauce. I can eat shrimp as long as it is deep fried and covered in dynamite sauce.

Food cravings: I just want to eat desserts all day long... And I crave fast-food. I know it is so gross and I can't believe that I am admitting it but I do. Good thing I have a husband who can talk some sense into me, most of the time.

Fitness: Walking and hiking. The weather has been so much cooler - like in the 80's! We've gotten out two days this week. I received my new yoga video's from the library but I have yet to check them out yet. I hope to this weekend. This pic is from last weekend when it was still HOT!

Bump: The bump is expanding! Taken this morning before work... I might still be a little groggy.

Baby Preparations: Here are the pics of the two pain colors we are currently considering. They look so differnt on the yellow and gray walls. One of them is pretty close to the original color but it doesn't have as much blue in it.

On the left is Stonington Gray and on the right is Coventry Gray.

So, I am not sure which once to pick. I could go with the color that is currently in there and cover up the yellow wall. But I think that I might go with the lighter one but I keep waffling back and forth! I am ready to start stetting up the nursery. This is finally starting to feel a little more real.

I also started on a quilt this past week for our little girl. We had a lot of quilts growing up and I remember seeing them hanging in the trees on our way down to the beach. Mom would stop and buy these amazing hand-made quilts for us. I like being crafty so I decided to start one... it may take me 10 years to finish it but maybe I'll surprise myself!
